For those who haven’t heard of Eurovision, it is basically the European version of American Idol – but way cooler. Every year, since 1956, select European countries choose original songs from their respective nations for submission into the continent-wide competition. The selection of these songs can be done any way each country feels fit. In Sweden, the national final culminates with a large song festival (Melodifestivalen) where 32 participants perform their songs in front of a live audience as well as on national TV; this has become the most watched show of the year. Each song is then voted on with the winner advancing to the larger Eurovision competition. Here is this year’s winner of Sweden’s contest along with the first runner up:

The much publicized reveal by Nike last night ended with an auction for the very first pair of Marty McFly shoes (Nike Air Mags) going for $37,500. The winning bidder? UK-rapper Tinie Tempah! Tinie has already said the he “has so many clothes, (he) keeps some in (his) aunt’s house”, so I wonder if that’s where these are headed. TMZ has the video of the actual auction going down.
Nike is releasing 1,500 pairs of the shoes on eBay, with proceeds to benefit the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research. So if each pair sells at this price, that’s $56.25 million!
