Artists to Watch: Across The Pond

Here’s an international supplement to my Artists to Watch ’11-’12 post; check out 3 emerging artists from Europe. The first 2 are from England, and the last is an old favorite from Sweden.

Tinie Tempah

Tinie already has a couple of big hits, in my opinion. His ‘Pass Out’ track hit the #1 spot in the UK, and the collaboration track with Swedish House Mafia (below) is one of my personal favorites. Also, check out Chiddy Bang’s version of ‘Pass Out’ here.

Tinie Tempah – Pass Out mp3

Another well-established UK artist looking to make the jump across the Atlantic – and with featured artists Chris Brown, Trey Songz & Keri Hilson it shouldn’t be a problem. His sophomore album, Transition, is scheduled for an April 18th release, but you can get a sneak peak below.

Chipmunk feat. Eric B – Follow My Lead mp3

Chipmunk feat. Trey Songz – Take Off mp3

Chipmunk feat. Kalenna – White Lies mp3

Adam Tensta

Check out my post highlighting a Tensta concert I attended last year in Sweden. Also, be sure to take a look at Nike’s American Made Series showcasing Adam as well as Swedish NBA star Jonas Jerebko. Adam’s Scared of the Dark album should be available any day now – can’t wait.

2012 Prophecies

With all the 2012 doomsday predictions gaining popularity recently, here’s one of my own: hip-hop will officially be dead. Many have said it before, but it has never been true. How could hip-hop be dead already when Eminem’s “Recovery” was the best-selling album of any genre in 2010? I’m not saying hip-hop will suddenly cease from existence, but you will definitely see more and more  songs referred to as “hip-hop inspired”. The precursors to this musical evolution are already apparent in the obvious trend toward electro/house beats. I also see a sub-genre sprouting up with the more mellow, somewhat rock-influenced work of artists like Kid Cudi and even Wiz Khalifa (Wiz’s “Say Yeah” supports the house movement though). Plus, many doomsday prophecies refer to stars exploding and the world ending… WorldStarHipHop anyone? Seriously though, my prediction is definitely less ridiculous than some others out there. Here’s support for the electro/house movement (some tracks are newer than others, but you get the idea):

David Guetta feat. Rihanna – Who’s That Chick mp3

Tiesto vs Diplo feat. Busta Rhymes – C’mon (Catch Em By Surprise) mp3

Benny Benassi feat. Chris Brown – Beautiful People mp3

Benny Benassi feat. T-Pain – Electroman mp3

Diddy feat. Ludacris – Tomorrow Tonight mp3

Swedish House Mafia feat. Pharrell – One mp3

The Drought is Over

I got my new iMac, so I’m good to go now. I thought it was only appropriate to post Drake’s new mixtape “The Drought is Over: Friends With Money”. It’s been out for a little while, and I wasn’t super excited about posting it because it has a lot of the same songs that are on the “So Far Gone” mixtape, but Drake always comes with quality tracks. These are 3 of my faves (also, check out all of the singles below the tape):

Drake – Cannon Ball

Drake – Closer To My Dreams

Drake – Friends With Money

Drake – The Drought is Over (Mixtape)

(if you don’t know how to use .rar files, get this: Mac, PC)

I thought Ace Hood would be someone to look out for in the future (“Honorable Mention” haha). Song with Akon & T-Pain is guaranteed to be popular.

Ace Hood feat. Akon & T-Pain – Overtime

I‘m not sure if this is a serious song or what haha. Is Jay Rock just taking on everyone who raps? Or making fun of The Game because they sound alike? haha. “Thank The Lord” is pretty legit though.

Jay Rock – How To Rob ’09

Jay Rock – Thank The Lord

This first song is a little different; I def could see it getting big Lollipop-style… And Lil Wayne kills the verse with Twist, but I might be turning into a Lil Twist fan too. If Beyonce’s “Diva” was “A Milli 2.0”, “The Leak” is “A Milli 3.0″…

Jay Sean feat. Lil Wayne – Down

Lil Twist feat. Lil Wayne – The Leak

For some reason Ron Browz’s vocalizer doesn’t annoy me too much; I don’t know why. He was an “Honorable Mention”  like Ace Hood though haha. But seriously,  collab’s with Red Cafe and Ghostface Killah are pretty interesting.

Ron Browz feat. Red Cafe & Tea Bag Boys

Ghostface Killah feat. Ron Browz – She’s A Killer

Beat is addicting, tons of people got on it, and Red Cafe is always quality.

Red Cafe feat. Juelz Santana, Lore’l, Lloyd Banks, Busta Rhymes & Diddy – Hottest In The Hood (Remix #2)

Song has been out for a little while and is supposed to have Jeezy on it too when it’s finished. Hope it doesn’t cause too many more DUIs… ha.

Ludacris – Drinkin’ N Drivin’

Haha. Theme song.

Rihanna & Lady Gaga – Silly Boy

Ya Boy – Fuck Bitches, Get Money
